In September I started on the MMus Performance course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly RSAMD). After surviving the initial baptism of fire I am now relishing and rising to the many challenges asked of me on a daily basis.
I am particularly enjoying my principal study lessons with David Hubbard (Royal Scottish National Orchestra) and I am lucky also to have contrabassoon lessons with Alan Warhurst (Orchestra of Scottish Opera) and bassoon techniques classes with Alison Green (Scottish Chamber Orchestra).

My first concert was with the Conservatoire's Wind Orchestra giving a performance of some of Peter Graham's works for wind band. This included the world première of his Music Inspired by '44 Scotland Street' with narrator and a new text written by (you've guessed it) Alexander McCall Smith! This was a lovely surprise for me as Alexander seems to be becoming a bit of a theme in my career as a bassoonist so far. The work was really fun to play and a must for all McCall Smith fans. An extract from the performance and some explanation on the text from Alexander McCall Smith can be found here: http://broadcast.rcs.ac.uk/2012/01/44-scotland-street/ |
